​"​Doing Politics, Changing Society" was a programme of 10 day-long, monthly workshops which ran from June 2018 to March 2019. It was put together by the University of Warwick, in partnership with Muslim Women’s Network UK (https:// www.mwnuk.co.uk/), and brought together young women, aged 18 to 30, from Black Asian and minority ethnic communities all over the West Midlands.

These are some of the questions we answered over 10 months of Doing Politics, Changing Society  :

How do we tell people about the issues that concern us?
How do we get involved in the running of our local community?
How do we get our MP or the government to listen to what we’re saying?
​How can we hold to account those in power?
How do we change our world for the better?

The aim of the workshops was to get young BAME women, who are under-represented in public life, to become involved in political and civic action and bring about change by:

• Increasing their knowledge of the UK’s political landscape
• Helping them develop a range of political skills such as public speaking, social marketing, campaigning in public spaces and through social media, negotiating, handling conflict, working collectively
• building their confidence
• getting them to develop social action campaigns

​The programme culminated in the launch of four social action programmes, presented at a grand public event in March 2019, opened by the then Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Yvonne Mosquito.
